How do I create a clip for social media?

Quickly create clips for social media with Riverside. Use the Editor to change the video's dimensions to fit on any social media platform and trim it to just the excerpt you want to share.

Step by step

  1. On a computer, log in to your Riverside account.
  2. In the ☰ menu on the left, click the relevant Studio.
  3. Click the relevant recording.
  4. In the top right corner, click Edit and choose + Create new edit.
    Or scroll to Edits and click a Draft or magic-spark-icon.svg Magic Clip.

  2. At the top of the Editor, next to Magic Tools, click the current aspect ratio.
  3. In the panel, choose the relevant option.
    • Widescreen 16:9 (e.g. for sharing to Spotify, Vimeo, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook posts)
    • Vertical 9:16 (e.g. for Instagram Stories and Reels, Tiktok, and YouTube Shorts)
    • Square 1:1 (e.g. for Facebook Feed, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Instagram posts)
  4. On the Editor's timeline, split and trim the video to select the excerpt to share.
  5. In the toolbar on the right, click captions_icon.svg Captions to add or customize the burned-in captions to the video or type_T.svg Text to add text overlays. (optional).


  6. In the top-right corner, click Share.
  7. Select file preferences in the Export Options pop-up window.
  8. Click Export.
  9. Click Create another clip to edit the full recording again or click Back to recording page.
    The exported file is available to download from the recording's page after it processes.

  10. On the recording session's page, scroll to the Edit section.
  11. Hover over the clip thumbnail and click download-track.svg Download and select Download Clip
    Your MP4 video file downloads.
  12. Upload the file to the social media platform.

After you export a file, you can edit another copy with the changes you already made. Click the ••• [the three dots] on its thumbnail and choose copy.svg Duplicate.
