« to Live streaming: Overview

You can live stream to Instagram by setting up a custom RTMP stream with Riverside. 

When you stream on Instagram, the video is cropped to a 9:16 vertical ('portrait') frame that may also crop out some of your participants in the Riverside Studio.

Step by step

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the Studio, and click ••• [the three dots].
  3. Click Go to Studio.
  4. On the Lobby page, enter your details and click Join Studio.
  1. At the top of the Studio, click Live Stream off.
  2. Under Stream to social, click ••• [the three dots].
  3. Click Custom RTMP.
  4. In the Add custom service pop-up, in the Name field, enter Instagram
  5. In another tab, open Instagram and sign in to your account.
    • You must have a professional account in order to live stream from Riverside.
    • Instagram only supports RTMP streaming from computers at this time.
  6. In the menu on the left, click Create.
  7. Click Live Video.
  8. Add a title and choose your audience.
    • Public - Content is streamed to all of your followers
    • Practice - Only you can see the stream, use for test recordings
  9. Click Next.
  10. Copy and paste the Stream Key and Stream URL from Instagram in the respective fields on the Add custom service window in Riverside.
  11. Click Add.
  12. Click Go live to start the live stream.
    It may take around 30 seconds for the video to appear on Instagram.
