How can I extract the audio from a Backup file?

Riverside's Internet Backup recordings are files recorded over the internet during the live call. After the call ends, you can download the Backups as MP4 video files.

To convert a MP4 video file into an audio file, follow the steps below.

TIP:
You can also download a participant's local High Quality Track in Raw Audio (WAV) or Compressed Audio (MP3) format or use the Editor to create and export an audio-only recording that combines the local High Quality Tracks.

Step by step – on a PC

  1. Download and install VLC Player, a free and open-source multimedia player.
  2. Download the desired participant's Backup recording or the session's All Participants Backup recording.
  3. Open the file in VLC Player.
  4. In the menu at the top of the program, click Media > Convert / Save.
  5. In the Open Media window's File tab, click + Add.
  6. In the file picker, select the Backup file from step 2 and click Open.
  7. In VLC's Open Media window, click Convert / Save.
  8. In the Convert window, next to Profile select Audio – MP3 on the dropdown menu.
  9. Next to Destination, click Browse and select a folder on the computer.
  10. Click Start.
The audio is saved as a new MP3 audio file.

Step by step – on a Mac

  1. Download the desired participant's Backup recording or the session's All Participants Backup recording.
