Smart Scenes identifies the main speaker, based on speech and head nods, to automatically apply scenes and layouts to capture key moments in your video.
This ensures your content is engaging for viewers, while saving you hours of editing time.

Step by step
- Log in to your Riverside account.
- Open a recording in the editor or upload an external file to start editing.
- On the Editor toolbar, click Layout.
- Under Layout, click Smart Scenes.
- Choose between any of our layouts: Smart scenes, Full screen, Picture in picture, Split screen, or Grid.
Hover over any selection to preview a layout. - Click your selection.
Changes are reflected immediately.
Smart Scenes override any scenes or layouts you previously added to the timeline. You can always click Undo to revert the change back to the previous layout. You can make changes to the Smart Scene by editing the scenes and layouts in the timeline.
Scenes are automatically generated for screen shares, media board videos, and shared presentations so they are displayed as the primary video, making it easier for viewing.
Additional layout changes
After you apply a smart scene, you can make additional changes to further customize your video:
- Choose whether to include spacing for gaps and customize corners (round or square) between the video frames.
- Apply layouts to individual video tracks (mirror, fill, hide).
- Rearrange participants' video tracks.
- Add a new scene to change the video layout for a particular segment of the video.
