You can record high-quality video using an external digital camera connected to your computer.
Connect Camera with USB
Many digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) and mirrorless cameras can be used to capture video by connecting the camera to your computer with a USB cable.
When connecting via USB, the resolution of your recording is based on the camera's capabilities and the camera capture software's maximum video resolution. For example:
- Canon EOS Webcam Utility: 1024 × 576
- Sony Imaging Edge Webcam: 1024 × 576
- Nikon Webcam Utility: 1024 × 768
- Panasonic LUMIX Webcam Software (Beta): 1280 × 960 or 1280 × 720
- GoPro Webcam desktop utility: 1920 × 1080
In general, to use a USB-to-computer setup:
- Install and launch the camera software.
- Connect the device to your computer with a USB cable.
-
Select the device as the camera input in the Riverside Studio or Lobby.
You may need to restart your browser if you don't see the camera available.
NOTE:
When capturing video with a USB-to-computer setup, we recommend you use a different device for the audio source like a headset or external mic.
Connect Camera with External Capture Card For Higher Resolution Recordings
Use a dedicated external capture card with your DSLR or mirrorless camera to record video at higher resolutions than you would by only using a USB cable.
The capture card plugs into a USB port on your computer and receives HDMI video from the camera.
