Enable noise reduction to minimize background sounds, like a participant's loud computer fan or air conditioner. The filter is applied to both the live studio audio and to all participants' recorded tracks to reduce the high and low frequencies outside the range of vocal speech.
We recommend enabling noise reduction, unless each participant is in a separate soundproofed environment.

When should I use noise reduction?
When you enable noise reduction while recording, Riverside processes all participants' audio through a noise filter to create a clearer-sounding recording. It reduces ambient noise from the room tone, like air conditioners and fans, with minimal impact on spoken vocals.
Why you may want to remove background noise:
- Smoother-sounding overall audio, especially if
- someone is not recording in a soundproofed space
- background noise is louder than the spoken parts
- you can hear an electric hum (grounding noise)
Why you may want to keep the raw audio:
- Audio loses some fidelity and texture
If you enable noise reduction while recording in the studio, you cannot add the sound data back in later. Even if you don't apply the noise reduction in the studio, you can also apply similar noise removal in the editor.
