Go to your Studio settings to change the Recording Settings.

Studio settings

  • Change recording type (audio only or audio & video)

    By default, Riverside records both audio and video in the Studio. To record only participants' audio, follow the steps below.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. In the Recording section, scroll to Recording mode.
    5. Click the toggle to change from Video & audio (default) to Audio.

    From the studio

    1. Using a computer, join a Studio as the Host or as a Producer.
    2. At the top of the page, click settings.svg Settings.
    3. In the Settings window, click Recording.
    4. Under Recording mode, click the toggle to change from Video & audio to Audio.

    A participant with their camera on can still be seen during the live recording, when you record in audio-only mode.

  • Enable noise reduction

    Enable the Studio's background noise reduction to minimize sounds like a participant's loud computer fan or air conditioner. The filter is applied to both the live Studio audio and to all participants' recorded tracks to reduce the high and low frequencies outside the range of vocal speech. 

    We recommend enabling Noise reduction, unless each participant is in a separate soundproofed environment. Learn more.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. In the Recording section, scroll to mic-solid.svg Audio.
    5. Next to Noise reduction, click the toggle.
      The next recording uses the new setting for all participants.

    From the studio

    1. Join a Studio as the Host or as a Producer.
    2. Stop the current recording.
    3. On the right side menu, click people.svg People to open the sidebar.
    4. Under Recording Overview, click the toggle next to Noise reduction.
      The next recording uses the new setting for all participants.
  • Change audio sample rate

    Riverside's default audio sample rate is 44.1 kHz. You can also record at 48 kHz, which is preferred in some professional workflows and when editing audio for video.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. Scroll to the Recording section and find mic-solid.svg Audio.
    5. Next to Audio sample rate, click the preferred rate.
      The next recording will use the new sample rate.

    From the studio

    1. Join a Studio session as the Host or as a Producer.
    2. Stop the current recording.
    3. At the top of the page, click  Settings.
    4. Click Recording.
    5. Look for mic-solid.svg Audio.
    6. Next to Audio sample rate, click the preferred rate
      The next recording will use the new sample rate.

  • Change default resolution

    For faster uploading and processing, the standard resolution of recorded video tracks in the Riverside Studio is 720p HD. If you or a participant use a camera that can record 1080p (HD) or 2160p (4K) resolution video, increase your Studio's maximum resolution to Advanced.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. Scroll to the Recording section and find video.svg Video.
    5. Click Standard resolution or Advanced.
    6. If using Advanced, click the toggle for Up to 1080p or Up to 4K HD.
      The next recording in this Studio will use the selected video resolution.

    From the studio

    1. Join a Studio session as the Host or as a Producer.
    2. Stop the current recording.
    3. At the top of the page, click  Settings.
    4. Click Recording.
    5. Scroll to video.svg Video.
    6. Click Standard resolution or Advanced.
    7. If recording in Advanced, click the toggle for Up to 1080p or Up to 4K HD.

  • Change frame rate (Riverside for Business)

    On a Riverside Business plan, you can change the studio to record video tracks at 25 FPS or 29.97 FPS on a computer. This change also applies to the frame rate of screen share recordings in the macOS app.

    You may need to adjust the studio’s frame rate depending on your lighting setup and geographic location and the rest of your post-production workflow.

    When using a computer, all participants record at a frame rate of 24 FPS (frames per second).

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. Click the desired Production.
    3. In the list on the left, hover over a Studio and click ••• [the three dots].
    4. On the menu, choose  Settings.
    5. Scroll to the Recording section and find video.svg Participant video recording.
    6. Next to Frame rate, click 24 FPS, 25 FPS, or 29.97 FPS.
      Future recordings in this studio use the new frame rate.

    From the studio

    You can only change the FPS of your video before recording. 

    1. Join a studio session as the Host or as a Producer.
    2. At the top of the page, click  Settings.
    3. Click Recording.
    4. Scroll to video.svg Participant video recording.
    5. Next to Frame rate, click 24 FPS, 25 FPS, or 29.97 FPS.
      Future recordings in this studio use the new frame rate.

    This setting changes the frame rate of the Raw video and Aligned video high-quality track files. Videos exported from the editor are always in 24 FPS, despite the studio's FPS setting.

    Note that mobile devices always record at their max FPS by default. However you can change frame rate settings within your mobile device's settings (see how for iOS). Additionally, you cannot change the FPS for screen share recordings on the computer.

    If your device's FPS settings do not match exactly with Riverside's, select the setting on your device that is closest to Riverside's FPS options.

  • Set default transcription language

    Riverside uses AI to transcribe your recording. By default, it transcribes conversations in English. For greater accuracy when generating transcriptions, you can indicate the language spoken in your studio.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. Under General, find Language.
    5. Go to Transcript & captions language dropdown menu
    6. Choose the new default language for future recordings.

    1. Using a computer, join a studio as the host or as a producer.
    2. At the top of the page, click settings.svg Settings.
    3. In the Settings window, click Recording.
    4. Scroll to the Language section.
    5. Go to Transcript & captions language dropdown menu.
    6. Choose the new default language for future recordings.

    The setting applies to future recordings and does not generate new transcriptions for past recordings.

  • Disable recording countdown

    By default, after the Host clicks Record in the Studio, each participant sees a 5-second countdown before the recording starts. Toggle this off in the Studio's settings to hide the countdown timer when you click Record.

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. Scroll to the Recording section and find Recording Start.
    5. Next to Countdown timer, click the toggle toggle-off-grey_36x24.svg off.
      The countdown is not shown at the start of the next recording in the Studio.

    From the studio

    1. Join a studio session as the host or producer.
    2. Stop the current recording.
    3. At the top of the page, click  settings.
    4. Click Recording.
    5. Scroll to Recording Start.
    6. Next to Countdown timer, click the toggle toggle-off-grey_36x24.svg off.
      The countdown is not shown at the start of the next recording in the Studio.

  • Auto-start recording when first guest joins

    Change your Studio's settings so the first recording session starts as soon as a Guest joins. This way, you won't need to click Record to get started.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. Scroll to the Recording section and find Recording Start.
    5. Under Automatically start recording, click the toggle toggle-on.svg on.
      The next recording in the Studio begins when the first Guest joins.

    From the studio

    1. Join a studio session as the host or producer.
    2. Stop the current recording.
    3. At the top of the page, click  settings.
    4. Click Recording.
    5. Scroll to Recording Start.
    6. Under Automatically start recording, click the toggle toggle-on.svg on.
    7. The next recording in the Studio begins when the first Guest joins.

    Icon.svg Good to know

    • The Studio only starts automatically recording if the Host joins the Studio before a Guest enters. Enable the Lobby's waiting room so the Host is always in the Studio before any Guests. The recording does not auto-start if a Producer, rather than a Host, is in the Studio without the Host. 
    • When this setting enabled, the Host cannot start with a test recording.
    • Auto start also applies to live streams.
  • Remove audience count

    Choose whether to display the total number of audience members watching the live recording session to your guests and audience members. By default, anyone in the studio can see the audience count.

    From the dashboard

    1. Log in to your Riverside account.
    2. In the ☰ menu on the left, hover over the studio, and click the ••• [the three dots].
    3. Choose  Settings.
    4. Click on Live stream and scroll down to Audience info.
    5. Next to Audience count, click the toggle toggle-off-grey_36x24.svg off.
      The total number of audience members does not show to guests and audience members in the studio.

    From the studio

    1. Join a studio session as the host or producer.
    2. Stop the current recording.
    3. At the top of the page, click  settings.
    4. Click Advanced.
    5. Scroll to the Audience info section.
    6. Next to Audience count, click the toggle toggle-off-grey_36x24.svg off.
      The total number of audience members does not show to guests and audience members in the studio.

    When you turn Audience count off, only the host and producers see the total number of audience members in the studio.
