Troubleshooting: Black video and silent audio added to partial tracks in the editor

« To Riverside editor: Overview

When you open a recording with a partial track in the editor, missing segments will appear as a black video with silent audio. This is to ensure that everything is in sync between tracks on the recording.

This placeholder will disappear once your participant finishes uploading their studio track and you start a new edit.

Troubleshooting for:

  • In the editor, I see a black video tile and I don’t hear audio for one or more of my participantsScreenshot 2024-08-29 at 12.30.41.png

Suggested steps

  1. Log in to your Riverside account.
  2. In the ☰ menu on the left, click the relevant studio.
  3. Click the relevant project.
  4. Under Recordings, click on a recording.
  5. On the recording's page, scroll to Recording files.
  1. Determine who's track has not finished uploading.
A track that is still uploading has statuses: Uploading, Processing, Error, Empty, or Stopped.
  2. Send that participant the instructions to complete their upload.
A fully uploaded track has the status: Ready (done).
  3. When all tracks are Ready, scroll to the top of the page.
  4. In the top right corner, click Edit to start a new edit using the full recording.

Once all tracks are fully uploaded, start a new edit to access all high-quality tracks in the editor. At this point, the black video gaps no longer appear, and your recording is available with each participant's complete track.
