« To Studio visual effects and virtual backgrounds: Overview
On a Riverside for Business account, you and your guests can upload your own images to create customized virtual backgrounds for video recordings.

This feature is in beta and is being released gradually to Riverside users.

Step by step
- From your computer browser, MacOS desktop app, or iOS app join a Riverside studio.
- On the lobby page, in your video preview, click Effects.
- On the panel under Backgrounds, click plus button.
- Choose a PNG or JPG image file on your computer or mobile device. The image file must be less than 4MB and should have a maximum height/width of 4096 pixels.
The image loads in your video preview. - Click the X to close Visual effects panel.
Your custom virtual background appears when you enter the studio.
The custom background is available to anyone who joins any of the studios in the production.
To remove the background, follow steps 1-2 above, then:
- On the panel under Backgrounds, hover over the uploaded image you wish to remove.
- In the top right corner, of the image, click the - minus button.
The image is removed from all studios in your production.
Good to know
- For best results, use even lighting and a clear wall behind you.
- Custom backgrounds are available in all of the Studios across the Production for all participants (including guests on different accounts) who join from the Riverside website.
- Team members and guests can upload custom backgrounds.
- Visual effects are not yet supported for Studios set in 4K. Be sure your studio is set to 720p or 1080p to access visual effects.
- System requirements: Devices must have 8 or more physical processing cores.
- Virtual backgrounds and blurs are included in the final recording file.
