Starting with macOS Sonoma 14.1, released in October 2023, Apple increased the privacy and security requirements for external cameras. To meet the requirements, a camera connected to your computer must trigger the camera privacy indicator (the icon that displays in the menu bar when the camera is in use).
Most manufacturers have updated their camera software to support this, but some may not have.
