Hardware setup
-
Riverside uses your computer's processor to save your high-quality track, then upload that data to the cloud.
- For recording videos, we recommend using a computer with 8 or more physical processing cores.
- For audio-only recordings, use a computer with 4 or more physical processing cores.
To check the number of processing cores your computer has:
- Mac – Open System Information report
- Windows – Open Task Manager
-
We recommend the default frame rate of 24 FPS (frames per second) for most uses.
If your device's FPS settings do not match exactly with Riverside's, select the setting on your device that is closest to Riverside's FPS options.
- If you are collaborating with others on a project that includes other media assets, set your Studio's frame rate to use the same FPS as the overall project's settings.
- You can reprocess the high-quality video tracks at the preferred frame rate after recording, if needed.
- If your recording space has fluorescent lights, the lighting may appear to flash. To correct this:
- change the frame rate to 29.97 FPS if you are in
- North America,
- South America, or
- another place with 60 Hz frequency electricity.
-
change the frame rate to 25 FPS if you are in
- Africa,
- Asia,
- Australia,
- Europe, or
- another place with 50 Hz frequency electricity.
- change the frame rate to 29.97 FPS if you are in
-
If you are recording using a mobile device:
- Mobile devices always record at their max FPS by default, however you can change frame rate settings within your mobile device's settings (see how for iOS).
- Before recording, close all other apps, ensure you have enough storage space, and make sure you are in a well-lit space.
Changing your studio's frame rate to 25 FPS or 29.97 FPS reflects in the Raw video and Aligned video high-quality track files. However, videos exported from the Editor are always in 24 FPS, despite the studio's FPS setting.
Remember that a higher frame rate does not necessarily mean higher picture quality.
- If you are collaborating with others on a project that includes other media assets, set your Studio's frame rate to use the same FPS as the overall project's settings.
Studios and roles
-
The number studios you can create depends on your account plan:
- If your account is on Riverside's free, standard, or pro plans, you have access to one studio for recording.
- If you have a Riverside for Business account, you can create unlimited studios.
-
On Riverside, only one person can join the studio in the formal host role. Other participants can join in the guest role but can still be referred to as "co-hosts."
Any guest participants are recorded just like the host, but only the Host can start the recording and perform other actions to manage the session.
-
No, you can't change a studio's URL, but you can rename a Studio, but this does not affect the URL. A constant URL allows any invite links you have already sent to remain valid since they use the URL that corresponds with the Studio's original name.
Riverside for Business users can create a new Studio with a different name, which will be used as its URL. For example, if you call your new Studio:
Possible Barefoot Moose?
, its invite URL will be something like: https://riverside.fm/studio/possible-barefoot-moose?t=0123456789abcdefghij.
Scheduling and studio invites
-
Yes, you can add a Studio invite link to calendar events on Calendly and other sites. Check out our how-to on Youtube for more information!
-
Hosts or Producers can invite participants to join their studio by sending a studio email invitation.
The emails contain:
- A studio invite link
- Details on how to join the session
- The date and time of the session according to the host's timezone, if you scheduled a studio session
The email looks like this:
Subject: Host Name invited you to a recording session on Riverside🎙️
From: Riverside.fm <notifications@riverside.fm>The link to the studio in the email is unique and is valid up until 24 hours after the start of the scheduled session. Studio links you send directly to a guest (outside of an invite email) are always valid.
-
Guests
No, guest do not receive a reminder before the scheduled recording if you send them an invitation email or studio invitation link.
However, if you send an invitation directly from Google calendar, Google calendar sends guests a reminder of the scheduled event.
Audience members
Likewise, audience members do not receive a reminder when they pre-register for a live recording.
